This family considers preparing and eating food together and with
friends to be extremely important. The decision therefore to elevate
the kitchen and dinning room to the "Piano nobile" from the ground
floor made sense; the space is not constricted by the hallway and
the rooms benefit from significantly increased light.
The old sixties stripped pine sitting room was replaced with a
simple kitchen of birch faced Ikea units which were placed along one
wall making the room light and open as well as practical and
comfortable. By using fully integrated appliances the units feel
much more like furniture than they might otherwise do and small
touches of luxury such as the stone worktops and floor as well as
the stainless steel handles and ladder.
The stainless steel ladder, table and chairs, the low voltage
wire lights and under-cupboard light boxes were all designed by
Peter Bell.
